The Nikon f-501, also known as the N2020, was Nikon’s first successful auto-focus single lens reflex model. It uses TTL (through-the-lens) focusing and was manufactured in 1986. The internal motor drive functions with four AAA batteries. The f-501’s design paved the way for all future AF SLR Nikon cameras in terms of design. Nikon incorporated an extended body grip as well as a red stripe along the right-hand side in subsequent models.
